BirdWeather: Smart Stations for Monitoring Birds and Bats
BirdWeather is a worldwide platform that uses artificial intelligence to recognize bird calls, turning everyday listening to nature into an exciting discovery. At its heart is the BirdNET neural network, jointly developed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (USA) and Chemnitz University of Technology (Germany). The platform now connects more than 2,000 active listening stations around the world, and the number keeps growing.
What Is BirdWeather PUC?
BirdWeather PUC is an acoustic recorder in a durable, weatherproof enclosure designed for outdoor use. It contains environmental sensors and a neural engine that let it record sounds from its surroundings and process them automatically in the cloud. Simply place it in your garden, on your balcony, at your cottage or out in nature, and connect it to your account. Artificial intelligence does the rest.
Bat Edition: Bats the Human Ear Can’t Detect
The newest addition to the range is the BirdWeather PUC Bat Edition, an ultrasonic recorder that captures bat echolocation as well as birds. It reveals a nocturnal world you would never hear without specialized equipment. It’s ideal for nature lovers, conservationists, schools and anyone curious about who is flying over their garden in the evening.
Clear Data in the Dashboard and Mobile App
You can view the analysis results at any time in the web dashboard or the mobile app. You’ll see which bird species are calling near your station, when they are most active and how their presence changes throughout the year. You can also show your station on the live BirdWeather map and explore activity from all over the world.
Citizen Science and Nature Conservation
Every BirdWeather station contributes to a growing digital library of bird vocalizations. The collected data helps track the behavior and changes of bird populations and provides valuable insights into environmental impact. By installing BirdWeather at home, you become more than an observer: you become part of a worldwide citizen science project.
