BirdWeather PUC – Bat Edition: Monitoring Station for Bats and Birds

Product detailed description

BirdWeather PUC Bat Edition: Ultrasonic Bat Recorder with AI Analysis

BirdWeather PUC Bat Edition is a new ultrasonic recorder with AI analysis that captures bat echolocation up to 384 kHz, along with bird sounds, and shows you in the cloud who is flying over your garden and when. Discover the hidden nocturnal world of bats without hours of listening to recordings, and keep their activity clearly at your fingertips.

The Hidden Night Above Your Garden

Bats are almost certainly flying over your garden shortly after sunset. However, their echolocation calls are ultrasonic, so the human ear cannot detect them without special equipment. The BirdWeather PUC Bat Edition ultrasonic bat recorder makes them both audible and visible. Thanks to continuous listening and automatic analysis of recordings, it reveals bat activity above your garden, park or natural area.

Why Bats Matter

Bats play a key role in ecosystems around the world. Many species eat thousands of insects every night, providing natural pest control that benefits both agriculture and biodiversity. Some bats also pollinate night-blooming plants and disperse seeds, supporting forest regeneration (in tropical regions).

Bat Monitoring Up to 384 kHz

The Bat Edition is designed specifically for recording ultrasonic bat echolocation. A sampling rate of up to 384 kHz captures the full frequency range of most bat species, including high-frequency calls and fine acoustic details. The recorder works all night long and automatically analyzes recordings through a cloud dashboard. This reveals behavioral patterns such as emergence from roosts after sunset, hunting activity and seasonal changes.

Understanding Bat Behavior

The recorder recognizes different echolocation patterns, such as search calls, prey pursuit and so-called “feeding buzzes”, the signals produced when a bat captures prey. This helps you understand how bats hunt and how they move through their environment.

Part of the Global BirdWeather Network

BirdWeather PUC uses the BirdNET neural network, jointly developed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (USA) and Chemnitz University of Technology (Germany), and automatically analyzes sounds in the cloud as part of a global network of more than 2,000 listening stations. This makes every user part of a worldwide citizen science project that supports research and nature conservation.

Records Birds and Nighttime Nature Sounds Too

In addition to ultrasonic bat calls, the Bat Edition also captures common wildlife sounds. With a single device, you can monitor bats, birds, owls and other animals. Birds are displayed by species name; other animals are not.
